For two days, Marseille was in the world’s spotlight as it became the first city in the history of the Olympic Games to welcome the Olympic flame by sea.
On May 8, 2024, the people of Marseille gathered at the Vieux Port to celebrate sporting history. Approximately 230 000 people welcomed the Olympic flame and several million television viewers watched the ceremony that marked the opening of the official Olympic torch relay. This was an opportunity to discover the beauty of Marseille and the incomparable spirit of the people who live here.
On May 9, the Olympic flame travelled through Marseille to meet the citizens. In the streets, parks, squares and even in front of city hall, our torchbearers proudly represented Marseille’s values of sharing and solidarity.
The arrival of the Olympic flame in Marseille was 48 hours of joy and celebration that perfectly reflected the importance of this historic moment. Relive in the experience in pictures.
